Hokitika Townchip A.K.A. Porky’s
New owners purchased Porky’s Fish & Chip shop,
Hokitika, in 2019 and have used my graphic design
services since.
Initially I designed a new logo for Porky’s ‘Hokitika
Townchip’. Mid 2022 has seen it become just Hokitika
Townchip with a new design.
The Menu design set the theme - it was designed as
wall signage, and then translated into window
signage, as well as A4 and A3 sized hardcopies.
The Menu includes my hand-drawn illustrations.
The work undertaken has been good fun; capturing
the down-to-earth West Coast flavour and kiwana
essence of a chippy shop in the font, style and
language used. I’ve invented catchphrases and text
content for point-of-sale pieces, social media
advertising, vouchers & in-store signage. Even the
fridge labels got the smARTkat design treatment.
One of my favourite projects was illustrating the fish,
and inventing the humorous descriptions for each fish,
to be displayed on the wall for the varieties they sell.
Any resemblance to actual facts is purely coincidental.
Go visit them next time you’re on the Coast. Their fish
’n’ chips are as tasty as their graphic design.
